United Way of the Midlands grants MIRCI $10.000.00 in COVID-19 Response Funds

May 14, 2020

MIRCI – Mental Illness Recovery Center Inc. was awarded $10,000.00 from the United Way of the Midlands’ COVID-19 Response Funds.

As a healthcare provider that treats our community’s most vulnerable population, those with severe and persistent mental illness(es) and who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness, continuing to provide services such as supportive housing and behavioral health treatment during uncertain times is imperative.
Since the start of the pandemic, MIRCI has been adhering to the guidance of the CDC and SCDHEC. MIRCI adjusted quickly to provide low and no-contact behavioral healthcare, including telehealth visits when appropriate; increased home visits by its licensed clinicians; the continuation of medication management services; provision of personal protective equipment to our residents; and increased grocery runs and delivery to seniors.

“We are thankful for the support United Way of the Midlands has extended to our organization. This grant helped us continue to provide behavioral healthcare while our insurance revenue has been reduced due to the adjustments to service delivery” said executive director, Julie Ann Avin.
The grant supports increased direct client service and operating costs as a response to the challenges of COVID-19.

“COVID-19 has placed a tremendous financial burden on families and individuals around the state,” said Sara Fawcett, United Way of the Midlands President and CEO. “These funds will help meet the rising needs facing our neighbors who are being impacted by the pandemic. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the COVID-19 Response Fund to make these grants possible.”
