November 13, 2023

Columbia, S.C. – The Lexington Medical Center Foundation, on behalf of the Lexington Medical Center, awarded Mirci a grant for general operations to improve health outcomes and the long-term stability of clients in the Midlands who are experiencing mental illness and/or substance use disorders.

Mirci serves youth, adults, and families who have a mental illness and/or substance use disorder, many of whom have also experienced homelessness. These individuals are first engaged by Mirci’s outreach team, who screen them for services and provide items to meet essential needs like food, hygiene products, and new clothes. Following engagement, an individual may be enrolled in Mirci’s services, which include accredited behavioral healthcare, benefits enrollment assistance, and supportive housing.

“Mirci appreciates the privilege to partner with Lexington Medical Center Foundation to assist individuals who are vulnerable to mental illness in our community,” CEO Julie Ann Avin said.

The award from Lexington Medical Center Foundation aids Mirci’s reach in Lexington County. The partnership contributes to long-term housing stability of clients, their continued welfare, and their ability to live self-sufficiently.

The shared priority of positive health outcomes improves the wellbeing of citizens and avoids millions of dollars spent by hospital systems on visits related to mental health and/or substance use concerns.
