Representative Payee Program

MIRCI started a Representative Payee Program in 1994, after identifying the need for fiscal management assistance. Due to mental illness, many individuals are in need of assistance in managing disability benefits. MIRCI offers a program to clients of both the Columbia Area and Lexington County Community Mental Health Centers that provides assistance in money management, protection of personal funds, and assurance that benefit payments are used for basic needs. Representative Payee staff work closely with case manager and physicians from mental health centers to insure basic needs are met.

Selection and appointment as payee is made by the Social Security Administration, the Veteran's Administration, and the Civil Service Department. The program provides services at the MIRCI office, as well as at various locations of each mental health center. Such variety in locations allows the client easy access to the payee.
